"You are a wise man Van Helsing, for one who has lived only one lifetime..."

Blob

From Dark Horizons:
Rob Zombie is re-making the Blob, he'll write, direct and produce a $30 million remake of 1958 horror classic for Genre Co. says Variety.

In the original Steve McQueen classic, an object from space crashes into a field, containing a red blob-like substance that absorbs the humans it contacts and grows exponentially. Zombie's new version however will take a different tack, the director refusing to disclose details but confirming that "my intention is not to have a big red blobby thing -- that's the first thing I want to change." So why call it the Blob?..did someone hit Zombie with a stupid auteur stick?

Zombie, Jack H. Harris, Richard Saperstein, Judith Parker Harris, Andy Gould and Brian Witten will produce.

There was a sequel/remake in the 70's directed by Larry Hagman and a remake in the 80's with that decade's gory sfx.

Here at Macabre we're not ashamed to admit to being Buffy The Vampire Slayer fans (ok the Mrs being a vampire dosen't care much for Buffy's job and dosen't care for the emo Angel and maybe my fixation on the cute redhaired Willow...oh what was i talking about?).

Witchfinder General (1968)

Witchfinder General (1968)
Starring Vincent Price as Matthew Hopkins,Witchfinder General.
Directed by Michael Reeves.
86 mins. Colour
DVD from MGM (Midnite Movies Collection)

"LO! 't is a gala night/Within the lonesome latter years./An angel throng, bewinged, bedight/In veils, and drowned in tears,/Sit in a theatre to see/A play of hopes and fears,/While the orchestra breathes fitfully/The music of the spheres."
"Out-out are the lights-out all!/And over each quivering form/The curtain, a funeral pall,/Comes down with the rush of a storm,/While the angels, all pallid and wan,/Uprising, unveiling, affirm/That the play is the tragedy, 'Man,'/And its hero, the Conqueror Worm."
Known as The Conqueror Worm in the US (AIP was trying to tie the film into their popular Edgar Allen Poe films)a few lines of Poe added at the beginning and end and you all of Mr. Poe's involvement.
Set during the times of the English Civil War the film follows Matthew Hopkins on witch finding duties of cruel torture and executions of the "guilty". The film can still shock after 41 years and dosen't flinch away from the horrors of the times.
This is one of my favorite Vincent Price films and seems his too, he under plays the character of Hopkins (who was a real person and Witchfinder). Excellent direction by Reeves and a great English cast : Ian Ogilvy, Nicky Henson, Rupert Davies,Bernard Kay, to name a few.
I recommend this film highly. Not sure if the DVD is still in print but grab it if you can.

New Links

I've just added two author links, JR Ward of the BDB books and Kate Douglas of the Wolf Tales books and both authors are highly recommended here at the Macabre.
Please check them out if you haven't already.

Green Slime Time

Everyone SING!

Open the door you'll find the secret
To find the answer is to keep it
You'll believe it when you find
Something screaming 'cross your mind
Green slime

What can it be, what is the reason
Is this the end of all that breathes, and
Is it something in your head?
Will youbelieve it when you're dead?
Green slime, green slime, green slime

What can it be, what is the reason
Is this the end to all that we've done?
Is it something in your dead?
Will you believe it when you're dead?
Green slime, green slime, green slime

I may be a bit obsessed with this movie but i NEED it on DeeVeeDee!

Morticia Addams aka Carolyn Jones.
I have lusted after Morticia ever since i first saw her. There is only one true Morticia and that's the Beautiful and sadly passed away Carolyn Jones.

Vampire Chronicles

According to Dark Horizons and Bloody Disgusting, Universal is working on re-booting Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles (you know vampire movies are hot again) and the actor to play Lestat for them is Robert (i'm in every movie these days that Johnny Depp isn't) Downey Jr.
As i understand it Ms Rice is a reborn Catholic and has given up on her Vampire books for more Godly books ( i even heard that she wanted to re do Lestat and have him find God, wouldn't that make him explode or something?).

Barbara Crampton.
Who could forget her in Re-Animator and From Beyond?

Sparkling Whine

I've never seen or read the Twilight movie or the books. I do know it's making a ton of money for the author and the film producers and making the actors "famous".
The Mrs says they were written for the teen market, i assume the films are too. Now that wouldn't bother me, i love the Harry Potter books and films.
I figure the books/film are the "Emo and Whine" variety of vampires, which i hate but the thing that will stop me from watching or reading any of the films or books is.............the vampires....sparkle.

So your old Host of the Macabre was checking out one of the better horror movie blogs online and saw a top 35 list of Horror movies, some great films and some major omissions to the list. There wasn't a single Hammer or British film there!

Wicker Chair Man

"What? Peter wants his wig back for Frankenstein And The Monster From Hell?"

What A Carry On!

Carry on Screaming (1966)
One of the, if not the best Carry On movie. It spoofs Hammer style horror films and does it quite well. Starring for this one film only Harry H. Corbett and the usual Carry On cast : Kenneth Williams, Charles Hawtrey, Jim Dale, Joan Sims and the very Morticia like Fenella Fielding. Hundreds of puns and jokes make this one a must see, the venerable Carry On are at the top of their game here.
Only drawback is the great Sid James isn't in this one.

Horror Movie News

While i was waitng for the sun to go down and the start of another movie filled night i thought i'd try to find some good ole Drive-In style horror movie news, i couldn't find any.
Oh sure there's a slew of big budget remakes, torture porn and twilight style emo vampire films and news out there but where is the cool movies, the kind we show here at Macabre?
Are there no new B Horror and Monster movies being any more?
I think we old ghouls were spoiled by when we had Godzilla,Gamera,Hammer,Amicus,AIP,Romero and more making films back in the golden age of Drive-In.
How about a Zombie Elvis fighting Ninjas movie ( i know we got a wonderful film recently called Bubba Ho-Tep, it's a Macabre fave but it's so rare to see a good film like that not spoiled with CGI and Movie Studio interference ), i'd run it here at the Macabre!
Oh well time to start making the popcorn bloody butter sauce...
